This was built by William Maddocks, the founder of Porthmadog, when overseeing the construction of the “Cob”, a link road with Porthdinllaen, in the ill-fated bid for the Irish Trade, which (thankfully, now) was won by Holyhead. This truly fascinating old house (with its exterior appearance loosely-resembling that of a Swiss chalet), boasts a host of unusual architectural features, and with its wealth of original oak beams, leaded windows and beautiful old furniture, it will appeal to the discerning client, who appreciates antiques and architecture, and is looking for something that is “that little bit different”. The wooded garden is made all that more interesting as it is on several levels, and provides a quiet haven away from the hustle and bustle of the town itself, in spite of being only a five minute walk from the town centre. It comprises: an extremely spacious lounge/diner with an impressive stone inglenook, electric fire, TV and DVD player; small kitchen, with electric cooker, fridge etc.; and a bathroom/toilet with overbath shower.
